I work closely with clients who wish to own wooden boats. I discuss with them the merits of various designs, or offer them resources so they can better understand a particular design that interests them. Commissioning a wooden boat is a large financial commitment, yet a well built boat can last for generations. I pay particular attention to educating clients about the merits of various construction methods, whether that be traditional plank-on-frame construction or more modern methods such as glued lapstrake, plywood or cold molded. Each type has its merits in terms of cost and longevity, and particular designs may not be appropriate for all methods.
Once a design and construction method is agreed upon I work up a schedule and price estimate. If all parties agree, a contract is signed and work commences.
